| The Cortijo de Malapié estate is located in the province of Sevilla (Southern Spain), between the mountains of Sierra Morena and the Guadalquivir river. The area benefits from very fertile soil and a warm climate. The estate is named after the nearby castle of Malapié, a ruined fortress of Moorish origin. Remains from Iberian, Roman and Arabic settlements are still occasionally found when ploughing the fields.
Malapié has 150 hectares of land, some used for agricultural purposes and some as pasture, and it is family owned and managed. Olives, oranges and honey have been produced on the estate for many years and sold locally. There is also a small bullfighting ring, a reminder of the days when Malapié successfully raised fighting bulls. The bulls are no longer there, but we still farm sheep and Iberian pigs.
During the past few years our family has concentrated on bringing the estate's traditional farming methods up to date, enabling a substancial increase in the productivity whilst maintaining high quality and respecting the environment. |
